Lauhala PALE Mat – Square / Rectangle

A handcrafted natural Lauhala mat, perfect for use as a PALE mat for an Ipu Heke, or as a base material for Tahitian dance hip belts, headpieces, and other costume accessories.

Beyond costume making, it can also be used as a placemat or tropical home décor, bringing a touch of the islands to any space.

Unlike mats cut from larger Lauhala sheets, these mats are individually woven to their finished size. This helps prevent the edges from unraveling and provides a cleaner, more durable finish.

Care Instructions
Working with Lauhala while it is completely dry may cause cracking or breakage. Before cutting or shaping, lightly mist the material with water or soak it briefly in lukewarm water to soften the fibers.

An iron may also be used to help reshape and flatten the material after it has been moistened.

About Lauhala Products
Lauhala is made from naturally dried pandanus leaves. During very dry seasons or when stored in a low-humidity environment, the material may become brittle.

Handmade from natural Lauhala (Pandanus leaves), each piece retains the unique color and pattern of the original leaves. Slight variations in size, color, shape, and weave are a natural characteristic of the material and make every piece one of a kind.

Before weaving or shaping, we recommend lightly misting the material with water, wrapping it in a damp cloth, or briefly soaking it in warm water. This will help restore flexibility and reduce the risk of cracking.
